When performing liposuction, your plastic surgeon will begin by injecting you with numbing medication to ensure you are comfortable during your procedure. Then, your plastic surgeon will begin liposuctioning the areas you want to target which will remove a mixture of the numbing medication fluid as well as the fat you are targeting. Then, your plastic surgeon will allow that fat and fluid to separate, similar to how oil and water separate, and will then measure how much fat was successfully removed.
