What Is Fat Transfer Surgery?

Fat transfer is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that transfers fat from your "problem" areas into another area of the body that needs volume, such as the buttocks, face, or breasts. The procedure is a great alternative to silicone prosthetics and/or dermal fillers because it uses fat from your own body which reduces your chance of adverse reactions and provides longer-lasting results. This procedure is highly customizable based on your "problem" areas, intended goals, and your plastic surgeon’s professional discretion. Choose Fat Transfer in Orlando, FL with our team of board-certified plastic surgeons.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Fat Transfer?

Plastic surgery should always be a personal decision that is not influenced by the opinions of others. Patients must be in good health to be considered for this procedure. Many patients turn to Fat Transfer in Orlando for a variety of reasons. If you identify with any of the following, then you may be a good candidate for a Fat Transfer:

  • You have enough fatty tissue to transfer

  • You wish to add volume to either your buttocks or face

  • You wish to decrease fatty tissue in another area of your body

  • You do not have any circulation problems due to a medical issue or smoking

  • You have realistic expectations of this procedure

How Is Fat Transfer Surgery Performed?

A fat transfer procedure is performed as small-scale liposuction which removes localized areas of fat from the body. The fat transfer procedure has three parts: harvesting, purification/transfer, and placement.

HARVESTING involves the collection of fat from a specified area through a small incision. The fat will be collected with a cannula, or thin tube, that is connected to a syringe. This process leaves minimal to no scarring.

PURIFICATION AND TRANSFER involves preparing the removed fat cells to be reinserted into the desired area. Before placement, the fat cells are “cleaned,” usually through the use of a centrifuge that spins the fat, or through a filtration process to remove impurities. The fat is then collected with small syringes that inject the fat into the desired area.

PLACEMENT involves fat being inserted into the desired area by small, repetitive injections. The goal is to achieve natural results in both the area that received the liposuction and the injectable.

Are There Different Fat Transfer Procedures?

FACE: A facial fat transfer generally targets the same problem areas that Botox targets. However, fat transfer to the face not only refills the creases in crows feet, and laugh lines, but also plumps sunken areas in the face such as cheeks, lips, and under-eye areas.

BUTTOCKS: If you’re looking for just a little extra plumpness in your buttocks, a fat transfer to your buttocks may be a good option. A buttocks fat transfer can take fat from your abdomen, thighs, or pesky love handles and transfer it to your behind, creating an hourglass shape.

BREASTS: Fat transfer to the breast is a great option for patients who want a moderate increase in their breast size and do not wish to have implants. Many patients love this idea because you’re not only increasing your breast size and fullness, but also targeting stubborn fat and contouring your figure at the same time.
