What Is Gynecomastia Surgery?

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is an overgrowth of male breast tissue characterized by localized fat, excess glandular tissue, or excess/sagging skin on the chest. Male patients can experience this on just one side, or both sides.

What Is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery, also known as Gynecomastectomy, is an excellent procedure if unwanted male breasts are getting in the way of your ability to remove your shirt in public, swim, participate in sports, or exercise at the gym. It will improve your overall body proportions and increase your social confidence. We can do this by either liposuctioning the chest or cutting out the excess tissue to reveal a more masculine chest.

Who Is A Candidate For Gynecomasectomy?

Patients who identify with the following may be good candidates for surgery. However, the only way to determine your candidacy for gynecomastia surgery is to meet with a plastic surgeon during a consultation:

  • Excess male breast tissue

  • Healthy without medical comorbidities

  • Non-smoker or willing to quit smoking at least 6 weeks before and after surgery

How Long Is Gynecomastia Recovery?

Patients are typically able to return to work 1 week after surgery. However, patients must avoid cardiovascular activity or lifting anything above 5 pounds for about 4 to 6 weeks.

It is important to understand that each patient is unique and your recovery time can depend on a variety of factors.

  • Enhancement: Immediate

  • 70% Swelling reduction: 4 - 6 weeks

  • Full Settling and recovery: 3 months
