What Is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable that destroys fat cells in order to remove excess bulge underneath the chin, otherwise known as a "double chin". This injectable is the first and only FDA-approved non-surgical option that targets fat under the chin.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is a manmade version of a substance that our bodies produce in order to absorb fat. This substance, Deoxycholic acid, works by destroying fat cells at the site of injection which decreases the appearance of excess fat underneath the chin. Subsequently relieving signs of the "double chin".

How Long Does Kybella Last?

Kybella requires multiple sessions in order to start seeing results. However, as every patient is unique, the exact number of sessions needed will vary based on your case. Kybella treatments are always scheduled as least one month apart and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. Once fat cells have been destroyed by treatment, they will no longer be able to store fat. In the event of weight gain, the residual fat cells in the treated area may expand in size. It is crucial to highlight that Kybella exclusively addresses preplatysmal fat. To effectively address deeper layers of fat, liposuction is the recommended approach.

Is Kybella Painful?

As Kybella is actively destroying fat cells, it is common to experience swelling, bruising, or soreness at the injection site. You can request an anesthetic cream to numb the injection site.
