What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a fat removal procedure that reduces excess fatty deposits by inserting a cannula, or thin tube, through a small incision. This allows Dr. Z to break up fat by manipulating the cannula and injecting fluids into the problem area. This procedure is extremely popular as no other procedure allows for such detailed and precise body contouring. In fact, liposuction is also used in conjunction with other procedures to 'refine' final results. It's important to keep in mind, liposuction should not be considered a weight loss surgery, as it is simply to refine and sculpt the figure. Choose Liposuction in Orlando, FL with our board certified plastic surgeon.

Dr. Z's Liposuction Expertise

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Z, believes that patients should be fully informed about any plastic surgery procedure that they are considering. Rather than listening to your friends or reading online, you can listen to a qualified, skilled plastic surgeon explain Liposuction, techniques, and recovery time. Check out Dr. Z describe what to expect during your Liposuction procedure.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Liposuction?

Plastic surgery should always be a personal decision that is not influenced by the opinions of others. As with any plastic surgery, patients must always be in good health to be considered for this procedure. So, what makes a "good" candidate besides simply being in good health? Many people consider liposuction for a variety of reasons, so if you identify with any of the following you may be a good candidate for liposuction:

  • Within 25 pounds of their ideal weight

  • Fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise

  • You have good skin elasticity (body must be able to conform to new sculpt)

  • Feelings of insecurity about your problem areas

  • You feel that your body is disproportionate

How Long Is Liposuction Recovery?

Following your procedure, our plastic surgery team will give you a compression garment to wear for a few weeks. Your compression garment will aid your recovery and enhance skin contraction while healing. Dr. Z and our staff will assist you with your recovery and provide you with specific instructions to ensure a safe and quick recovery process.

Liposuction techniques are designed to minimize the amount of swelling and discomfort for patients post-surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the targeted area and the technique chosen by Dr. Z. Although, liposuction generally has a pretty quick recovery time, it's important to understand that each patient's recovery can be different. However, patients typically return to work within the first week following surgery depending on their line of work.

Are There Different Liposuction Techniques?

Dr. Z offers tumescent liposuction and Vaser liposuction which can be combined to create dramatic results.

Tumescent liposuction: This is traditional liposuction which involves a cannula being inserted into the incision and releasing a mixture of salt solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine into the fat to break it up. This solution swells fat cells which increases their maneuverability.

Vaser liposuction: This technique can be added to tumescent liposuction by utilizing an ultrasonic probe which emulsifies the fat and makes it easier to remove. This also allows the surgeon to remove more superficial fat without causing contour deformities. Vaser allows the surgeon to achieve a higher level of precision to sculpt and highlight certain muscles which reveal more defined results.

Can Liposuction Get Rid Of Sagging Skin?

This is a common misconception about liposuction. While liposuction is incredibly powerful and effective when contouring the body, it cannot remove cellulite, stretch marks, or correct sagging skin. This procedure is specifically used to target fatty deposit areas to sculpt the figure, but it cannot significantly improve the appearance of loose skin. Liposuction usually maxes out at removing up to 10 pounds from a patient's body, so it's important to understand this is not a weight loss surgery. If you're wanting to target loose or sagging skin, a tummy tuck may be the right option for you.
