Who Is A Good Breast Augmentation Candidate?

Choosing plastic surgery should always be a personal, well thought out decision that was not sprung on by the opinions of others. If you are choosing plastic surgery for your own reasons, you're in good health, have realistic expectations, and your breasts are fully developed, then you are on your way to being a good candidate for a breast augmentation.

Patients decide to undergo plastic surgery for a variety of reasons. If you identify with any of the following, then you might be a good candidate for an augmentation mammoplasty:

  • Cannot be breastfeeding or have any medical conditions that can impair healing

  • Small breasts

  • Asymmetrical breasts

  • Deflated breasts

  • Breast changes after weight loss, pregnancy, or aging

  • Feelings of unhappiness about your breasts' appearance

Silicone Or Saline Implants?

When considering a breast augmentation, you will be faced with the silicone vs saline challenge. Saline implants use sterile saline solution, which is basically salt water, to inflate a silicone-based outer shell. Silicone implants, on the other hand, are entirely made of silicone gel. Saline implants are usually said to have a similar feel as a water balloon, whereas silicone implants are said to have the feel of a gummy bear to mimic the feel of natural breasts.

While there is no clear cut answer, there are certainly pros and cons of each. Saline implants may leave a slightly smaller scar because they are filled after they are inserted, so the incision doesn't have to be as large as it would be for silicone implants. However, silicone implants are much lighter than saline implants, which means a lot less pulling and rippling.

Keep in mind: When it comes to ruptures, saline implants deflate while the body absorbs the sterile saline solution. Contrarily, when silicone implants rupture it typically occurs in an undetectable manner. Because of this, individuals with silicone implants will have to undergo periodic MRI's in order to make sure the implants haven't ruptured.

Do You Offer Fat Transfer To The Breasts?

Yes, we do! Fat transfer to the breast is a great option for patients who want a moderate increase to their breast size and do not wish to have implants. This option essentially uses liposuction to take fat from other areas on your body (stomach, love handles, thighs, etc) and inject it into the breasts - no implants involved! Many patients love this idea because you’re not only increasing your breast size and fullness, but also targeting stubborn fat and contouring your figure at the same time.

However, it’s important to note that fat transfer to the breast will typically only increase your breast size by about 150CC or one cup size. If you wish to achieve a larger increase in cup size, you may consider multiple rounds of fat transfer or breast implants. For patients that identify with the following, you may be a good candidate for this procedure:

  • You do not wish to have implants

  • You want a moderate increase to your breast size

  • You have areas on your body that you would like to target with liposuction

  • You want a more natural option to increase breast size

How Long Is Breast Augmentation Recovery?

Typically, patients will need at least 1 week off from work and must avoid any cardiovascular activity or heavy lifting (>5lbs) for 4 - 6 weeks after their breast augmentation surgery.

It is important to understand that your exact recovery time depends on the extent of your procedure and how your body responds to the surgery. Our team will guide you through your recovery process with post-op instructions in order to ensure a safe and smooth recovery.
