What Is Buccal Fat Removal?
Buccal fat removal is a procedure that reduces facial fullness and enhances facial features. This procedure removes the naturally-occurring fat pads in the hollow area underneath the cheekbone to create a slimmer and more contoured facial shape. While everyone has buccal fat pads, the size can vary greatly which can cause roundness or even what some patients refer to as a “baby face”. Patients typically experience this due to genetics or weight gain. During this minimally invasive procedure, your plastic surgeon will remove your buccal fat pads by creating small incisions on the inside of your mouth under local anesthesia. How Long Is Buccal Fat Removal Recovery?
Buccal fat removal is a minimally invasive procedure that requires only a few stitches inside the mouth which dissolve on their own within 1-2 weeks. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia (unless being performed with other procedures) which minimizes downtime for patients. Most patients can return to normal activity within 24 - 48 hours, if desired. You most likely will experience some swelling, soreness, and bruising that will subside over the course of a few days postoperatively.
