Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery: How To Avoid Sitting After Your BBL

Many women seek out the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL): one of the most figure-lifting, confidence-boosting plastic surgery procedures. Patients with “flat” figures find that a BBL greatly enhances their silhouette and image. However, since BBL is a fairly invasive procedure, there is a recovery period involved. 

One of the most challenging aspects of this recovery period is that you are not allowed to sit for about 8 weeks after the procedure. Sounds daunting, doesn’t it? Your exact BBL recovery time will mainly dependent on how well you follow your post-op instructions. If you’re currently fretting about how to stay off your butt for 8 weeks, don’t worry— we’ve got some tricks up our sleeve.

What Is BBL Surgery?

As with any medical procedure, it can help to understand the process first. During your BBL, the plastic surgeon will remove fat from your hips and thighs via liposuction. This fat will then be purified so that it is safe to transfer into your buttocks. The fat is then inserted into the left and right buttock to achieve the look you have discussed with your surgeon. 

Why Can’t I Sit On My Butt?

A good thing to note: BBL is not an implant surgery; it is merely a transfer of fat.

At HZ Plastic Surgery we don’t offer butt implants. We’ve seen higher success rates and better-looking results with fat transfer procedures; your body is less likely to reject your own fat than a foreign implant.

This fat transfer is also why you cannot sit for a while after surgery. If you sit on the transfer site, your final results will not be like you imagined. You can minimize your BBL recovery time (but not the sitting strike) by following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions to the letter!

When Can I Sit After A BBL?

If you’re worried about sitting after the eight-week mark, don’t fret. Eight weeks is plenty of time for the tissue to heal and lock the fat into its new home. Before that point, though, you need to stay off your buttocks completely. This might sound like a daunting task, but the results will be so worth it! 

BBL Recovery Tips

Many hesitate from getting a BBL because they don’t see themselves realistically being able to stay off their butt for so long. We’re here to make it manageable! Here’s a few tips on how to sit on BBL. (Spoiler alert: don’t do it!)

Lie On Your Side

It might not be the most comfortable way to watch TV at night, but it will help you achieve the perfect results you were dreaming of— and paid for! Your surgeon will instruct you to sleep on your side or stomach, as well.

Avoid Driving

Aside from needing to sit directly in a seat to travel by car, pressing on the gas and brake pedals can unevenly destroy the implanted fat cells. Try to avoid traveling after your surgery; if you must travel, choose public transportations that offer standing positions.

Squat-Sitting

After the one-month mark has passed, your surgeon may give you the all-clear to start partially sitting on your buttocks with surrounding support—  such as with a donut or Boppy pillow. Keep in mind, though, that the less time you spend on your butt, the better your results will be!

Do: Stand & Walk

You might be sore and tired immediately following your surgery, but it’s essential to keep moving and reduce pressure on your liposuction sites. You can resume pre-surgery, standing activities 2-3 days after your surgery. While we don’t want you to overexert yourself, keeping busy and maintaining motion can actually help you recover faster.
